The Role
Due to continued growth, we have an opportunity in our Commercial & Litigation team for passionate individual to contribute to our success. This full-time role is based in our Geelong CBD office, with regular office hours from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals with legal industry experience looking to advance their careers and play a vital role in our expanding Commercial and Litigation Department. You will be responsible for providing and supporting a range of paralegal and administrative duties. You must show initiative and attention to detail, be willing to learn, work collaboratively with colleagues in the Commercial and Litigation practice area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Document Preparation and Management
- Draft, review, and manage legal documents, including pleadings, affidavits, and contracts.
- Assist in the preparation of briefs and other court documents.
- Organise and maintain case files and legal documents.
- Client Interaction
- Communicate with clients to gather information and provide updates on matter progress.
- Assist in client meetings and take detailed notes.
- Court Filings and Procedures
- File documents with courts and other relevant authorities.
- Ensure compliance with court rules and procedures.
- Administrative Support
- Provide administrative support to lawyers, including scheduling meetings and managing calendars.
- Handle correspondence and communication with clients, courts, and other parties.
- Case Management
- Assist in the management of case timelines and deadlines.
- Coordinate with external parties such as witnesses, experts, and opposing counsel.
- Trial Preparation
- Assist in the preparation for trials, including organising exhibits and evidence.
- Attend court proceedings and take notes as required.
- Billing and Timekeeping
- Assist in the preparation of billing statements and timekeeping records.
- Monitor and track billable hours.
- Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in identifying and managing potential risks in legal matters.
- Professional Development
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
About You:
- Have 2+ years of relevant paralegal, law clerk, or legal assistant experience, preferably in commercial law and litigation.
- Be comfortable making outbound calls to clients and external parties.
- Exhibit a high level of attention to detail.
- Be enthusiastic about working in a fast-paced and growing firm.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office software applications.
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Showcase strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise and multitask effectively.
